A dataset of detrital zircon U–Pb geochronology and Hf isotopes from the Songpan–Ganzi and Western Qinling

Abstract
Since the advent of detrital geochronology, great progress has been made in the study of sediment sources. Detrital zircon U–Pb age spectrum, especially combined with zircon Hf isotope, provides a powerful tool for determining the provenance location, nature and evolutionary history. 20640 zircon U–Pb ages of 281 sandstone samples from the Songpan–Ganzi and West Qinling terranes were collected. Among them, 1636 zircons from 33 samples have Hf isotopic data. Zircon U–Pb ages and Hf isotope database contain three types of information including reference, sample and zircon grain, each of which contains its own additional information, with 76 header information in the former and 60 header information in the latter. Songpan-Ganzi samples are mainly Triassic, accounting for 84%, followed by Paleocene-Neogene samples accounting for 6%, and Cretaceous, Jurassic and Precambrian samples are only sporadically distributed; spatially samples from western Songpan-Ganzi terrane (82-95°) account for 20%, central (95-100°) for 31% and eastern (100-105°) for 49%. The Late Paleozoic-Triassic samples dominate in the West Qinling, accounting for 72%, followed by Cretaceous-Paleocene and Neoproterozoic samples accounting for 14%, mainly distributed in the red layer deposits in the north of the West Qinling and the graben basin in the south, and Precambrian samples accounting for 13%, mainly distributed in the combined Qinling-Qilian-Kunlun area. The KDE map of zircon U–Pb ages was drawed by the DetritalPy in order to generalize the data and facilitate the subsequent provenance analysis. For zircon Hf isotopic data, εHf (t) – age was plotted for visual analysis. This thematic dataset has multiple data interfaces, which can be well associated with research or application in different fields, which is conducive to the promotion and use of the dataset.
