Abstract
Detrital zircon U-Pb age dataset for the Paleozoic to Mesozoic strata in North China Block is a part of China detrital zircon database. The data is collected from published scientific articles that searched from ‘Web of Science’, ‘China National Knowledge Infrastructure’, and ‘Wanfang Database’ with the following keywords: ‘Paleozoic’ or ‘Mesozoic’ + ‘Detrital Zircon’ + ‘North China’ or ‘Ordos Basin’ or ‘Hefei Basin’. We download 92 filtered articles and collate the data obtained from them. Establish shared excel and collect totally 71 fields, such as the author, publication time, publication journal, article issue number, page number, article link, country, region, continent, tectonic unit, lithostratigraphy, specific location, profile, longitude and latitude, geological age, testing instrument, testing laboratory, testing college, mass spectrum mode, light spot size, lithology, sample number, U-Pb isotope ratio, U-Pb age and etc.. A total of 27,915 zircon geochronological and 4,968 Lu-Hf isotopic data were compiled from the Paleozoic to Mesozoic strata in the North China Block. Temporally, the largest amount of data comes from the Late Carboniferous and Late Triassic. Spatially, the data is distributed mainly in the northern, western and southern parts of North China Block, most of which concentrate in the Ordos Basin. Ages of detrital zircon range from 3.9 Ga to 95 Ma, show multiple peaks of ~2.5Ga, ~1.85Ga, ~920 Ma, 750-780 Ma, ~440 Ma, ~380 Ma, ~320 Ma, ~280 Ma, ~250 Ma, ~220 Ma, ~180 Ma, ~160 Ma, and ~120Ma. The corresponding εHf (t) values range from -81.3 to 41.9, with the two-stage Hf model ages (TDM2) ranging from 4335 to 204 Ma. This dataset can be used to track tectonic assembly, paleogeography and crustal evolution of the North China Block. In the use of this dataset, the following two aspects need to be considered. Firstly, the test quantity of zircon grains varies greatly for they were generated from different labs and using different standards, and may influence the interpretation on the dataset. Secondly, there may be large uncertainties with the stratigraphic ages assigned for the samples of detrital zircon data.
